Scott Overby, CCIM, CPM, has served as principal broker and president of Overby Commercial since 2003, leading one of Mississippi’s most respected commercial real estate practices. The firm serves investors, owners, and tenants across Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas with brokerage, leasing, investment sales, and property management services, with a managed portfolio of several million square feet of office, retail, and flex industrial space.

Overby Commercial is, in many ways, a family story. Scott’s mother founded the firm in 1983, building a residential practice before retiring in the late 1990s. Scott and his business partner Amanda P. Overby, CCIM, returned to Mississippi in 2002 and rebuilt the firm together, with Scott leading the commercial division from the ground up. What followed was a sustained expansion that transformed a family firm into one of the state’s leading commercial real estate practices.

Scott’s route into commercial real estate was not a planned one. Beginning as a lifeguard at age 14 and working summers in the water park and theme park industry through his college years, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Marketing from George Mason University in 1993 before transitioning into a full-time career with Six Flags. By 1998, he was serving as Director of Operations for Six Flags America, with company-wide responsibility for standardizing operations across 39 U.S. properties. Managing large-scale construction projects alongside the financial pressures of compressed seasonal operations taught him to move fast, manage risk, and stay focused on the bottom line. That foundation proved to be ideal preparation for commercial real estate.

He earned the CCIM designation in 2008 and the CPM designation in 2020, reflecting his commitment to both investment analysis and property management disciplines. He was named 2017 REALTOR of the Year by the Mississippi Commercial Association of REALTORS. Scott and Overby Commercial are consistently recognized by CoStar as Power Brokers, most recently earning both individual and brokerage awards in 2025. In 2023, he received the Susan J. Groeneveld Award from the CCIM Institute’s Jay W. Levine Leadership Development Academy, a selective program that prepares emerging CCIM members for national leadership roles within the Institute. The Groeneveld Award recognizes the academy’s top graduate for exemplary leadership, commitment to the profession, and promise for future service.

Scott currently serves on the CCIM Institute Board of Directors, now in his fourth year. His involvement with the Institute extends well beyond board membership, encompassing numerous committee appointments over the years, most notably the Finance Committee, where he has helped shape the organization’s budgets and financial direction, and the Strategic Planning Committee, contributing to the long-range direction of the Institute. In 2025, he served as the Member Services Presidential Liaison, appointed directly by the CCIM Institute’s global president. He also serves on the CCIM Foundation Board of Directors, where he co-chairs the Foundation’s Capital Campaign, a multi-million dollar initiative to expand the Foundation’s sustaining resources for commercial real estate education. He has previously served as president of the CCIM Mississippi Chapter, the Mississippi Commercial Association of REALTORS, the Central Mississippi MLS, and the Friends of Children’s Hospital, where he helped lead fundraising efforts that contributed to the construction of the Children’s of Mississippi tower.

Scott’s approach to the business has always been grounded in relationships. Across more than two decades in the Central Mississippi market, he has built a practice centered on long-term partnerships rather than individual transactions, and the professional network he has developed reflects that commitment.

Scott is a native Jacksonian and a graduate of Jackson Academy. Amanda P. Overby, CCIM, his business partner, co-owner, and COO, leads the firm alongside him on equal footing. Their daughters Avery and Isabella are currently in nursing school and physical therapy school, respectively. His third child, Peter Barker, is a high-energy Vizsla and the family’s undisputed favorite.
